Howard Gould, son of Jay Gould, hired Augustus N. Allen to design him an entire complex at Sands Point. In 1902 work began on the stable, modeled after Kilkenny Castle in Ireland. Gould was to have Allen design his main house as well, but after he divorced his wife around 1907, the plans fell through and Gould went in another direction. In 1917 the estate was sold to Daniel Guggenheim.
