'Little Ipswich'

'Little Ipswich', the Chalmers Wood Jr. estate designed by Delano & Aldrich c. 1927 in Woodbury.  Wood was a founding partner of the firm Johnson, Wood & Rogers.  His first marriage ended in 1924 and the same year he remarried the interior designer Ruby Ross Wood.  'Little Ipswich' was demolished in the 1990s.  Click HERE to see where 'Little Ipswich' stood on google earth.  Photo from the Ryerson & Burnham Archives at the Art Institute of Chicago.

'Cloverly Manor'

'Cloverly Manor', the Vincent Astor estate designed by Delano & Aldrich c. 1922 in Sands Point with landscaping by Annette Hoyt Flanders.  Astor was the son of J.J. Astor IV and took over the Astor family real estate holdings following his father's death on the Titanic in 1912.  In 1933 the residence was sold to Allan J. McIntosh, partner in the brokerage firm of Davis & McIntosh.  McIntosh had been leasing the home as his summer residence since 1931.  This aerial is part of SMU's Robert Yarnall Richie collection and was taken between 1932-1934.  Click HERE to see 'Cloverly Manor' on google earth and HERE on bing.

'Bogheid'

 'Bogheid', the Helen Porter Pryibil estate designed by Delano & Aldrich c. 1938 in Glen Cove with landscaping by the Olmsted Brothers.  Pryibil was the daughter of William Henry Porter, partner at J.P. Morgan & Co., and built her estate on the site of Porter's 'Bogheid' which had been demolished c. 1930.  Pryibil willed the house and grounds to the City of Glen Cove following her death and a golf course was built around the property.  The house was eventually sold to Martin Carey, owner of 'Winfield Hall' also in Glen Cove.  Click HERE to see 'Bogheid' on google earth and HERE on bing.  Photos courtesy of Eddie Crowley.

'Welwyn' Indoor Tennis Court

The indoor tennis court at 'Welwyn', the Harold I. Pratt estate designed by Babb, Cook & Willard c. 1906 in Glen Cove with extensive alterations by Delano & Aldrich in the 1920s (including the indoor tennis court). It seems that Nassau County rents out the residence that is attached to the tennis court but the court itself fell into a ruinous state many years ago. Click HERE for more on 'Welwyn'.
