'
Germelwyn' was built for
Leonard J. Busby by
C.P.H. Gilbert between 1896 and 1901 in
Glen Cove. Busby was in the manufacturing business from Brooklyn and chose the '
North Country Colony', a wealthy development of country houses, to build his country home.
C.P.H. Gilbert had designed numerous homes in the colony including
Harvey Murdock's '
The Birches' and
Frank Woolworth's '
Winfield Hall'. Busby's house is an unusual one, it is a combination of a variety of styles that all fell under the Colonial Revival tag. Today the house operates as the
North Country Day School. Click
