The front gate to '
Knole', originally the
Herman Duryea residence in
Old Westbury designed by
Carrere & Hastings in 1903. After Duryea moved to Europe the house was purchased by
Henry Phipps as a wedding gift to his daughter Helen and her husband
Bradley Martin. The house remained in the family until their son
Esmond Martin passed away a few years ago at which point the house was sold and the property was unfortunately subdivided, however the house does remain intact and has a new owner. Click

Knole' on google earth.

Yikes, I just drove past the entrance of Knole today (4/19/11) and the gate is gone! I have driven past there and loved looking at it since the mid 70's! I realize the property is being subdivided, but does anyone know what is going to happen to that beautiful wrought iron entanceway?
Thanks
Ralph
