'
The Wings' was built c. 1875 for
Charles Anderson Dana on
West Island in
Glen Cove. The house had
Olmsted landscaping, making it the earliest Olmsted commission on the
North Shore. Dana passed away in 1897 and the estate was sold to
William Lamon Harkness who incorporated part of the house into a new house for himself. In 1929 the property was sold to
Junius Spencer Morgan, son of
J.P. Morgan Jr., who remodeled the house into a guest house for what would become his estate '
Salutation'. Click
