'The Orchards', the Elisha Dyer residence designed by Howard & Frenaye c. 1927 in Brookville. Dyer was president of the advisory council for the Cooper Union Museum, president of the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Association, trustee with SPLIA and a member of the executive committee for Old Westbury Gardens among other things. He was the grandson of Governor Elisha Dyer of Rhode Island. Bradley Delehanty was hired in 1939 to completely redesign the house which can be seen HERE.

Delehanty is an architect worth closer study. Some of his work is absolutely charming.
His sister, Frances Delehanty, was a well-regarded muralist and the longtime companion of the painter Lauren Ford.

Hi Zach - I'm a collateral Dyer descendant. The Elisha Dyers were on Mrs. Astors original 400 list, the maximum that would fit into her Fifth Ave. ballroom in the 19th Century. Dyers are from Boston originally, but asked to leave four seperate times, departing for Newport, but Mary Dyer was always returning to Boston to preach religious equality. She is the only one ever hanged and burnt at the stake simultaneously. Hence, the Dyers remained in Newport, spreading westwards. Keep up the good work Zach.
I'm very interested in researching the Delehanty family, especially Frances Delehanty. Does anyone know of good resources on her life and work?
