A brochure advertising '
Deepdale', the
William K. Vanderbilt Jr. estate (and later his ex-wife
Virginia Graham Fair Vanderbilt) designed by
Horace Trumbauer c. 1902 in
Great Neck with alterations by
Carrere & Hastings. Trumbauer's original plans called for a simple house which
Carrere & Hastings later enlarged to a country estate. In 1931 the house was downsized and it's wings were razed. Click

Zach,
Let me start by saying you have a fantastic site, which I look forward to viewing each day.I think, however that you usual incredible level of accuracy somehow got off kilter today (perhaps the holiday weekend)as the estate shown is in Lake Success -far from Strathmore Vanderbilt, Manhasset.

Yes thank you I have been made aware. I had another Monday morning moment (today counts as a Monday) and yet again my folder was labeled incorrectly (I should have double checked before running out the door). At least this stuff only happens right after the weekend.
my cousin lives in deepdale now and has restored parts of it and it remains a gorgeus house. the fountain in the solarium still works to this day. incredible house.
Very interesting. The builder of our home lived in that house for several years. He built 4 houses to the south and west on Westcliff Drive. The community was called Westcliff On The Lake and the subsequent builder changed the name to Stonebridge. He was one year late on the start of our home and the contract called for him to provide us with a place to live as my parents sold our home in Jamaica. We lived above the 4 car garage for 9 months. Myself, my 3 brothers, my parents and my grandfather.
