The A.H. Lyon Estate

The Augusta Hays Lyon estate designed by Rouse & Goldstone c. 1917 in Huntington. She was the wife of Walter Lyon (a stock broker) and a member of the Heckscher family. This was one of only two commissions by Rouse & Goldstone on Long Island. Click HERE to see the A.H. Lyon estate on google earth and HERE on bing.

Thanks...SPLIA says it was demolished. Oops.

There are quite a few homes in SPLIA marked demolished that aren't. One of my favorite holdouts is on Martha Court im West Babylon (don't have the book in front of me to recall original owner, it's in the back of the book where no architect is attributed). SPLIA says demolished but it's still there in a sea of suburban houses.

That Eastfair structure looks too Quonset hut-like to my eye. One view on Bing shows one half of a huge sliding door - open. Storage would be my thinking. The spine down the middle of roof for light is to narrow compared to all the others. Doesn't seem to be any formal connection to the house like the outdoor court has. Even back to 1953 I see no landscaping like you find around the outdoor court. In 1966 I see no area the would indicate a glass roof to allow light in. So I say ... not a indoor court. However until I see it in person or someone who knows for sure comments I'm guessing.

I am the current owner of this home. I was so pleased to be able to learn something of its history.
