This is my favorite of the Pratt houses- not overly large and with real charm which many of his brother's houses don't have to my mind.
Comment left at the wikimapia tag for Poplar Hill "it really is a shame what they have done to the interior of this building..... i'm sure thee was alot more intresting achtecture then whats there now, plust the exterion facade is crumbling to dust."
One of my favorite house also. I had seen it when it was almost abandoned and before they put that new wing on. I appreciate that they thought it would be nice to make the addition look like an extension of the house, but it's crammed right up against the older wing. I realize there are set backs and other rules, but wish it could have been more successful. I think it was also a designer showcase in the 70" or 80s,unfortunately one of the few I missed.
an elegant composition. glad it has not met the fate of many - can always hope it will be restored at some time.
Go to,

to see it today with new wing.
love that new wing. it reminds me of another architectural masterpiece - i believe its called Sing Sing. now, where did i put that boiling oil.
zach, where did we fail you. sending all these pix of beautiful extant houses that have been butchered beyond comprehension. how they could add an industrial complex to this beautiful house. maybe that's why it looks like a prison because this is a criminal act. WTF? i'll have to content myself with that great pic of the chairs on the loggia - a whiff of times past before we lapsed into unconsciousness.
security word def - "joiderva" - hannah montana's successor
I'm afraid I must present the dissenting opinion---much as I love restraint, symmetry, and Charles Adams Platt, I find this house utterly bland--elegant in details, flat in effect. Perfectly nice, but not great.
As to that new wing, we have to give them points for good intentions, but the old line about the tail wagging the dog comes to mind.
