i like the ones with the bent ends versus the straight line or trailer style (more prevalent in maine). and while i know its healthy for the house to prune the greenery, the old pix of the original landscaping is always so much more attractive. those big puffy shrubs and mature trees give it the look of a place to live in and come back to. now they look naked and saleable, developable but not livable.
security word def - "chessen" - as the hip hoppers age, the kind of comment heard more and more in their raps as in "we be chessen". they used to say "we be illen" but now they are illen.

The back of the house looks pretty lush:

The Woodwards: Tragedy in High Society
The Woodwards. Not absolute fact, but it's been said old lady Woodward lived across the street from Broadhollow in 1955...now Dogwood Hill ( perhaps the original estate name ?). The home was owned later by Elbridge Gerry, the 3rd or 4th, or such..Gerry of gerrymandering fame.
HPHS.....the Woodward story is so sad! I don't think she did it....she was killed by a bunch of bored, idled snobs, and in turn, that's what took her childrens lives. If the rich of yesterday were not so elitist and quick to squash whom they considered beneath them...they may still have held on to some power today.
Elsie C. Woodward ? Or Ann E. Woodward?
I thought Elsie & William Woodward Sr. resided at "Enfield Hall" on Cedar Swamp Road ? In Upper Brookville.
Elsie Woodward lived at "Enfield Chase" and was Ann Woodward's mother-in-law.
HPHS,
Yes, what was I thinking ?...Enfield Chase. Now I could be wrong, but given the fact that William Woodward Sr. resided in England before returning to America AND preparing to inherit his uncle James. T. Woodward's estate in Belair, MD AND preparing to build his broodmare group along with a signature stallion, that WW Sr. attended many races including steeplechasing and gave the estate the name of Enfield Chase. Just my opinion, but I bet there was a race named Enfield Chase in which he took a liking to the name and called his estate. Elsie never would have approved, but being a new bride at the time, she accepted it. And Elsie never liked Belair Stud and WW Sr. knew it. She preferred NYC & her salons and liked her entourage if you will. And all that they entailed.
After WW Sr. passed away in Sept 1953, WW Jr. took over the estate as his own "man cave", after Ann was barred in 1954-55.
