Zach, wasn't there a LIFE magazine photo of a couple at/middle of the allee ? Sometime in the mid-late 50's ? Westbury House was clearly in the background. With lights,it gave us all how really long that alle really was...must have been during a summer outing. How beautiful it is.....

I just love this place....I'm there as often as possible. You don't feel your in a "mansion" when you there, you feel as if your visiting somebodys home and welcomed with open arms. I can really feel that this was a home for family and friends and not built to be a showplace.

I always wonder why the other Phipps family members didn't combine their resources to include "Spring Hill", "Knole" and "Templeton I" (White Eagle)as historic house musuems. I'm sure the could of set it up the same way Peggy did, or all of merged together somehow. Imagine!! Old Westbury could have still been a Phipps compound that would have rivaled Newport.
