'Box Hill Farm'

'Box Hill Farm', the Gerald Felix Warburg estate built c. 1938 in Brookville, with landscaping by Louise Payson. Warburg was the son of Felix M. Warburg, partner at Kuhn, Loeb & Co. and nephew of Mortimer Schiff, owner of 'Northwood' in Oyster Bay Cove (also a partner at Kuhn, Loeb & Co.). Warburg was also a concert cellist and conductor and vice-president of the NYC Center of Music and Drama. Click HERE to see the Warburg estate on google earth.

From the NYTs: Natica Nast Warburg and her husband, Gerald Felix Warburg, a conductor and cellist, bought 37 acres of land in 1937. There they built the home they would live in for the rest of their lives. She died in May 1987.

I'm sure the pictures by Gottscho-Schleisner with the Cedar Swamp Rd were already examined.

Zach, A while back you suggested reading "Our Crowd" and I did. Thanks, I enjoyed it very much. I recognize the significance of the this house and the family Warburg. What a history!
Question : since the fall of Lehman..at one point it was Lehman Brothers, Kuhn,Loeb. Does the Kuhn, Loeb name exist at all any more? I am curious if any one can answer that. Did the name just go away? and when?

For starters, there's this: http://www.kuhnloeb.com/

For more exhaustive accounts, search Google using the original firm name, there is much more to read.

As a child in the 1970s, I made many visits to this home, as my family had befriended Natica Nast Warburg... She was a gracious host, and the home was classic, quiet, quality. The estate was intact and in original condition -- none of the mega-mansions now visible on the aerial photos were there... We would walk the open fields... Of particular note was the music studio: brick-paved, with amazing soft light, a big piano -- the room lives in my dreams... the pool was 100 yards south and west of the house, where now stands a mega-mansion... It was a magical, mysterious place for a child.
