I thought this house was still totally intact?
The 42-room Fort Hill mansion when it was listed for sale in 2006 (@ $24M) indicated it was "rebuilt" in 1990 and still on 13.5-acres. The price in 2007 dropped down to $18M.
The Daniel Gale/Sotheby's listing cited a detached 12-car garage, indoor squash court and deep water dock.
A side point on a former resident:
'A former gatehouse for the Fort Hill mansion on the hill to the north, the brick house with a bay window on the first floor, five gables on the second floor and a pool and pavilion - and no screening on the water side - proved much too visible after Joel married model Christie Brinkley, so the couple moved to Amagansett, New York.'

SPLIA has a preservation covenant on this house. When I was at SPLIA two summers ago they had just finished an inspection (I do not recall at what frequency they do this). But I believe it is well cared for.
