dramatic photo.

Long Island looks almost as bleak as Maine, only without the several inches of snow. Where in hell is Spring?

Zach --

Are you camping out in a rowboat?

Practically. They were all taken on the same day from the beach at low, low tide.

Zach, wherever did you uncover the attribution of John Scott Browning? Poor soul must be positively circumvolutory in his crypt.

Amazing how Brodsky's neglect & an untidy beach can give the impression of a showplace beyond redemption; any update on the impending demolition?

Security word - forplyst: initiation of the mating ritual for the duck-billed platypus.

I went by yesterday evening before sunset. Just to the front gate... You can see more of the house now as the caretakers house and the garage have now been demolished. The greenhouse (which I was lucky to visit about a month ago) also seems to have been torn down.

There is a long letter on the gate regarding the Lands End Development fund...

From Forbes.com - "The world of Swope (who was sometimes known as "Swope of the World") was a glamorous one. Born in New York City in 1882, Swope was an inveterate gambler and aggressive reporter. In 1917, as an energetic reporter for the New York World, Herbert Bayard Swope won the first Pulitzer Prize for reporting, for a series entitled "Inside the German Empire." He later became the editor of the paper and, over the years, was a confidante to actors, writers and presidents. More that just socialially renowned, Swope amassed a personal fortune by following the advice of his many prominent friends in business."

it sure looked a lot more impressive in the Forbes article - amazing how a lot of neglect will ruin something. what happened to the seawall? did Brodsky rip that out to make the place look more derelict.
we can only hope the old saying is true - "what goes around comes around" - maybe bernie madoff is up for one more deal. i have an investor for him.

security word def - "ingslyti" - the method a certain bank uses to determine who to loan to.

I wish I could shroud the corpse behind a thousand leafy trees and shrubs, let her die with the dignity she deserves after 100 years of life.

I just saw video of the demolition taking place. It is just sad to see this place gone now. The video was shown on Sunday Morning News on channel 2. RIP Lands End.
