'Sherryland'

'Sherryland', originally the Louis Sherry estate with alterations by McKim, Mead & White c. 1915 in Manhasset and later owned by Virginia Graham Fair Vanderbilt.  She renamed the estate 'Fairmont' and resided there until her death in 1935 (click HERE to see her previous residence).  In 1938 the estate was sold to William Levitt who developed the property and main house into the Strathmore Vanderbilt Country Club.  Click HERE to see 'Sherryland' on google earth and HERE on bing.

Perhaps it is just the storybook castle influence, but MMW looks to have used a similar pen with the Piermont, NY located Lord/Thaw estate. John Foreman did a visit to the property in January ...

Love a good storybook castle. Strathmore was developed by the pre-Levittown Levitt, who did a fairly decent job here at building mock Tudors and Georgians in Manhasset. NYarch
