'Beacon Towers'
'Beacon Towers', the Alva Vanderbilt Belmont estate designed by Hunt & Hunt c. 1917 in Sands Point. Click HERE for all the previous posts on 'Beacon Towers'. Photo from the Library of Congress.
Zach: if you come across them, would you post side by side photos of the house before and after the Hearst "renovations". I think the first photo you posted was the entrance court a la Hearst. I'd love to see more. Any idea of who Hearst's architect was?
DED: I fully concur. Everything about Beacon Towers is ridiculous, but the whole thing is marvelous.

Funny how sometimes something that really shouldn't work turns instead into a moment of genius, isn't it?
DED, are you talking about Elizabeth Taylor's second marriage to Richard Burton?
I'm sure Ancient has an even better example -- ?
