Almost the archetype of a Long Island country house, and another of those houses that spawned a million imitators. I share Tyngsboro's feelings about the 'improvements'. The current landscape design is redolent of a Marriot (why do people change things that don't need changing???)

In other, as usual, unrelated news, one should not miss the article in today's Times about the restoration of Belcourt in Newport. The future looks bright---although for those who missed it during the Tinney years, you did miss one of the most idiosyncratic, weird and wonderful house museums...
