What a great story . . . secret closet and all !!!
The Rostropovich family has stated that they still own the Duport. The NIpponMusic Foundation has also made statements that they do not own it. Rostropovich's daughter Elena now manages the family philanthropic efforts through: http://www.aer-worldwide.org/?lang=en
fascinating!
zach..probably best to take this post down. I received a note from the author that this post was in good fun, and not to be taken seriously.
Someone, apparently Mr. Anonymous, left me a voice mail to the effect that he was doing further research about these instruments, and that he needed to count on my "confidentiality." That seemed rather odd, so I sent him an e-mail indicating that we had no further interest. But otherwise, the article, which was intended to be informative and entertaining, is very much true.
Vince..sent your email to Zach.the confidentiality referred to who had the Duport today..which I do know. The thought was that I could have the person contact you and arrange for you to have the cello played at OWG....no other reason except to help, which is what I thought you were looking for. Again, I'm very much in the world you were writing about, and thought such a well written article deserved a follow up. Sounds like you are good with where you are, and best Holiday Wishes to you.
