CATCH FIVE SHARKS

Oyster Bay Sept 1, 1916

Five sharks the largest nearly eleven feet leng were caught in Long Island Sound off Center Island yesterday by Cap tain Daniel w Smith and Charles W Devoe veteran fiahermeu of Oy iter Bay The big fish were harpooned near the eutrance to the harbor dragged up on the beach of the Colgate Hoyt estate and killed with stones Many bathers were near the the sight of the dead monsters drove them out of the water The largest two sharks according to Captain Smith put up a terrific battle before they were killed Many wealthy residents whose estates front on the water reported the presence of sharks and the authorities commissioned Captnin Smith to patrol the bay in search forth m In addition to the live caught Smith said he sighted many more and will continue the hunt daily
