The house is such a hot mess that this shouldn't come as a surprise. If the technology had been available I'm sure there would have been nighttime lighting effects to rival Vegas.
In days of old, in formal gardens in Italy, the effect sought after was one of studied neglect . . . I believe that was the term. Looking at the overgrown balustrades, and ivy overtaking the marble lions, it seems to have been achieved here.
I never noticed that term before, but immediately understand the appeal and how difficult it is to successfully achieve!
