I knew Kiluna Farm in the 1970's. By that time, the Paley's who owned the property then, had built a new pool much closer to the house itself (the pool pictured here was quite a distance away). Initially, they had kept this pool open for the use of their servants, but rumors of a nude midnight bacchanalia by the domestics (I'm not making this up), moved them to close it down. When I knew it, this pool and pool pavillion were a ruin in the midst of a tangle wild forest on the verge of the property.

My family lived on the farm in the early 1970's. The pool was beautiful to swim in - salt water - with a statue by Rodin at one end. The bathhouse was fully equipped. While you were in the pool, you looked out at beautiful green rolling lawns, punctuated by two enormous, absolutely beautiful red maple trees. The tennis house was beyond these trees.

I cooked as the assistant Chef at 820 5th Ave for almost 2 years after Graduating the Culinary Institute of America’s in June of 1971, I lived there and when Romain Sempe the older Chef from Paris, went home to Paris and Bill and Babe went to Bom Bom Germany I Stacey at the Kiluna Estate and cooked for the help, I was amazed at the indoor clay tennis courts and the practice shoes with all the famous names on them, when I left Babe Paley wrote a special recommendation on her personal paper and signature and The French Chef did as we’ll hand written in French. It was a privilege to have fed them and their company such as the Rockefeller’s, CBS friends Walter Cronkite, Henry Fonda, and many others
