The Redesigned Entrance to 'Spring Hill'

The new look of the entrance to 'Spring Hill', where the gate was moved back to allow for a wider entrance (as required by the Village) and the road was split to the left and right of the original drive. Click HERE to see what the gate and entrance used to look like and click HERE for more on 'Spring Hill'.

It's clear that the developer is trying to do a first rate job, and it's nicely done, but still, needless to say, something is lost....

I agree. Too many of the Gold Coast estates and the large estates on the south shore of Long island have been lost to development. Now watch as other elements of Long Island history disappear. Time to get behind the historical societies and help save what remains.

It is a little peculiar but kudos for an attempt to preserve the gates in some semblance of the original setting.

As I once told Zach, I recall seeing the house, Spring Hill, in my youth, just before it was demolished. Despite the benign neglect at the time, it still shone in the sun on its hill ––– it was magnificent.

The new gates? Um, not so much.

Security word - pillot: an incomplete exercise class.

The destruction of Spring Hill is just as heartbreaking as that of Pembroke. I wonder why these people have no sense of family legacy...it's not as if he wasn't a very wealthy man....he, and many others could of afforded the cost of high property tax, and still they chose to trample their family homes......so sad.
