It probably won't win any awards for architectural merit, having to my mind a sort of "helpful hands at home" quality. But it's not lacking in charm. I'll bet that whatever replaced it is pretty terrible. Just a guess.

I agree with Magnus, no masterpiece, but comfortable and does no harm, back when designing a house was still about creating something civilized.

I've always wanted a set of curving garden stairs. I suppose that I'd have to get a garden to match.

Magnus, I don't think anything replaced this house. It appears the barn/garage has been converted into a house & the rest of the property is intact but cleared down to the water. There is a rectangular shape just before the ground starts breaking downward where the house likely sat:

Note: this estate is next door (west of) The Chimneys, which Zach featured on October 8, 2010 when it was for sale for $20million.

An iconoclast, to be sure. Located next to the Charles Porter Wilson estate, The Chimneys, if you look carefully on Bing, you can see the ghost of the foundation of the house that faced west across Mill Neck to the sunset.

Zach, can you refresh our memories as to the house immediately to the west of where this one stood? If memory serves, it was a wonderfully spare Art Deco/Moderne structure belonging to an aviator? It has since been horribly disfigured with a faux roofline marring its "W" shaped floor plan...
