Nice looking stable, compliments the house in having charm rather than grandeur. Is this the same Willard Straight whose NYC townhouse at Fifth Ave & 94th street was later owned by Harrison Williams, who also owned ‘Oak Point”, discussed last week?

Sorry, ignore comment about stable complimenting the house -- I was thinking of 'Applegarth;' don't know what the house at 'Applegreen' looked like.

Applegreen still stands, albeit cut in half:

DFP -
Same Willard Straight. His wife was a Whitney. When he died she donated the magnificent student union at Cornell - Willard Straight Hall. Delano & Aldrich.

Charming. Those were the days, my friend...

Anon 9am, thanks.

Zach, when you say "cut in half" do you mean 1) half the house has been removed, or 2) it is now two separate houses with a common wall?

In Zach's Bing view it appears there is some renovation work in progress.

Looking westward from the house on Bing, one can discern the walls and layout of the once very grand Beatrix Farrand gardens at Applegreen, with their Chinese overtones, now overlaid with growth, and backyard swimming pools (one of which does take advantage of semi-circular steps and retaining walls).

DFP...the very large original house had a portion of it removed to make it more livable to modern living standards.

Sorry...I'm somewhat off target again, but this has been bothering me since I read this post at work this morning. When I clicked on google-earth to view where "Applegreen" stood, I found myself wandering and ended up by "Knole" on Post. Now, if heading north on Post (north of Jericho Trnpk heading towards 25A), "Knole" is on the West side of the road,(towards the city), on google-earth, they also have "Wheatly" on the West side,(where now that hedge-fund gentleman has built his McMansion). Clock Tower Road is on the East side of Post. Now I always assumed that "Wheatly", since the clock-tower was the entrance, was East of Post where either Glen Oaks club, or part of SUNY Old Westbury now stand, but now I'm very confused about the placement. Did Post not exsist in "Wheatly's" prime and end after "Knole"; Or did it curve more easternly? I highly doubt that Post cut through the estate, since I thought some of the out-buildings still stand on the eastern side of Post/Wheatly Road.

So sorry, not that anyone paid any mind to my question, but I realized I was reading the map wrong....
