hmmmm. No interiors shown in the listing. Not a good sign.
Another not good sign from listing: "Myriad Of Possibilities With 28 Acres Of Rolling Land To Build Luxury Homes With Multiple Access Roads."
Gives the year 1840 as the year built. Hm.

Incredibly charming, but sadly in need of some major TLC.
Given the location, the acreage, the age & the elegant but subdued entrance facade (no "impress the guests" McMansion here), I fear its days are numbered...
that house is serious Locust Valley vernacular. It screams everything that makes that area sooooo special. I can imagine there must be lots of Locust trees around. It would be so very heartbreaking if this house were to be torn down. If I had the dough, in a heart beat , I would restore this. Rambling and prep style, to its core.
The estate is currently for sale for $15 million.
As of July 10, 2015, it appears that the North Shore Alliance has purchased the entire 28 acre estate for conservation purposes. The proximity to Shu Swamp Preserve, Francis Ponds, Mill Neck Creek and the Humes Japanese Stroll garden was cited as the reason to conserve the property. The Alliance sent out letters in late July. Presumably the many smaller buildings, some currently rented, can continue to provide an income while the Alliance makes plans for opening the property and more importantly finding a use for the large main house itself, not to mention the repairs and maintenance all that will require.
