'Woodbury House' in Spring
'Woodbury House', the James Watson Webb estate designed by Cross & Cross c. 1915 in Woodbury, pictured in Spring. Click HERE for more on 'Woodbury House'.
that arc street lamp in front is a nice touch. What on earth is wrong with people? Even though it's not one of Cross & Cross's best works (like, Bayberryland in Southampton, to give an example of their best), it nevertheless doesn't deserve bad stewardship either. And one would think (incorrectly, it turns out), that Oyster Bay would be a more enlightened community. Deep sigh.
It should be noted that the Town of Oyster Bay administers this place (and the park along with it), which should be differentiated from the Hamlet of Oyster Bay (which is more enlightened because they focus on less space). The Town of Oyster Bay encompasses 36 villages and hamlets. Long Island geography gets confusing once you start looking into the smaller pieces.
township of oyster bay.and they should really be embarrassed. this has looked like it does since at least the 1970's, when me and my friends used to hang out there.
yes, indeed, I've often been confused, and the boundaries keep shifting on me---Brookville or Locust Valley? Cold Spring Harbor or Syosset? Mill Neck or Centre Island? Muttontown or Brookville? Oyster Bay or?
Yup. Confusing. But they still should be embarrassed
It IS embarrassing and it seems almost criminal to let this home deteriorate brick by brick. Former TOB officials, I'm sure, plundered the front doors which were magnificent. As it is already Town property it could serve more uses than storage. In the past it was a community center and administrative building.

Did you peek in the window?
I tried. It seems like the Town of Oyster Bay uses it for storage.
