Nice -- any guesses ... or knowledge on who designed it?
What is that square area behind the garage? It looks like a cemetery.
I just looked at the Google Earth link & yes -- the Underhill Burying Ground. It wouldn't bother me but it may slow down a sale.
Stanford White, of course!
:)
As a teenager, I spent many an hour in this one ; during the 70's (my friends' parents home)..gracious , ample, and not ostentatious. A lovely home.
I just looked at the Daniel Gale , listing photo's..Whoa..what a total change from the interior décor back in the day..back then it was simple, worn, very good quality country style furniture..LL Bean boots and an old bench at the front door.Hand hooked rugs and old Persian carpets.lots of dogs running around.Silver and pewter. the floors were not shiny and the was no dark walls or anything other than understatement.
William McNair... and his wife Elvira Brokaw McNair, sister of Irving and Howard C. Brokaw, and first cousin to a bunch more Brokaws, all of who's country places (Goose Point, Frost Mill Lodge, The Chimneys, The Elms, Nirvana, Sunshine, Martin Hall) are well covered on this site.
Friends of mine owned this house in the 80s. At that time, they had totally modernized the look, with blond floors, etc.
