Ox Pasture', the
Salem Howe Wales estate built c. 1880 and later enlarged by
Carrere & Hastings in
Southampton. Wales was a partner and managing editor of Scientific American magazine, president of the New York City's Park Commission and New York City's Dock Commission, and founder and trustee of the Hahnemann Hospital, the New York Homeopathic Medical College and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His daughter was married to
Elihu Root who also had a residence by
Carrere & Hastings nearby named '
Mayfair'. '
Ox Pasture' is no longer extant.
