The Pratt Oval

Above is all that is left of the 'Pratt Oval', the administration and service buildings to the massive tract of land owned by the Pratt family in Glen Cove.  The clock-tower can be seen below in the center of the picture.  Everything else (besides a piece of one other building) has since been demolished and a housing development has taken its place.  The large house visible to the right is 'Killenworth'.  Click HERE to see the clock-tower on google earth.

Winfield Hall Special Part 1

The following photos of Frank W. Woolworth's 'Winfield Hall' in Glen Cove come from a great blog/blogger, StuccoHouse, whose uncle worked personally for Richard Reynolds and for the Reynolds Company.  The photos were taken on September 4th, 1947, at which time the Reynolds family occupied the estate.  I really cannot thank StuccoHouse enough for sharing these photos, not only are they incredibly unique but they offer a glimpse into what 'Winfield Hall' looked like in 1947.  Thanks StuccoHouse!

Stay tuned for Part 2 tomorrow.

Roslyn Duck Pond

The Roslyn Duck Pond makes up roughly the center of the old town of Roslyn.  Consisting of 3 ponds full of water fowl, the area has been popular for the last 300 years.  Most of the houses in the distance date to before 1875, some to before 1800.  Click HERE to see the Roslyn Duck Pond on google earth.

You can always find ducks here, no matter the time of day or year.
