'The Orchard' Interiors

Some interiors to 'The Orchard', the James L. Breese estate designed by McKim, Mead & White between 1898-1907 in Southampton. Charles McKim had been responsible for the exteriors which can be seen HERE, and Stanford White was responsible for the interiors, including the remodeling of the music room/studio in 1906 right around the time of his murder. An advertisement for Garden City from a 1917 issue of Country Life in America. Two of the pictures include the Cathedral of the Incarnation and St. Paul's School for Boys.

The Adelaide Brevoort Hutton Residence

The residence of Adelaide Brevoort Hutton (born Adelaide Brevoort Close), Marjorie Merriweather Post's eldest daughter from her first marriage to Edward Bennett Close, built c. 1928 next to her mother's 'Hillwood' mansion in Brookville. By the time of Adelaide's marriage in 1927 to Thomas Wells Durant she had taken E.F. Hutton's last name, her step father. Today the home is part of LIU's C.W. The house was recently renovated and two walls were built out front which included a number of 'Post' made bricks I found last summer and gave to Ken Mensing, the campus historian, which he thoughtfully included in the project.

'Munnysunk'

A spread on 'Munnysunk', the Frank Bailey estate enlarged by Severance & Schumm c. 1912 in Locust Valley. Bailey was president of the Title Guarantee & Trust Company and was a developer in Brooklyn, credited with the development of Brownsville, Bensonhurst, Borough Park and Long Beach. The gate lodge to 'Leahead', designed by A.S. Bell for the Henry W.J. Bucknall estate in Glen Cove. Bucknall was vice-president of the Armstrong Cork Company and a partner in Gudewill & Bucknall and Bucknall, Scholtz & Company, both cork importers. 'Eastfair' Front Gate

The front gate to 'Eastfair', the Sherman Mills Fairchild estate designed by Forster & Gallimore c. 1930 in Lloyd Harbor. Fairchild was founder and chairman of Fairchild Camera and Instrument Company and invented the flash camera with powered magnesium. He also developed an aerial camera and started an aerial survey company in 1924. Though that business soon failed it led Fairchild to develop airplanes suited for mapmaking and charting. He was also a director at IBM (where his father was a founder) and his obituary states that he was reputed to be the single biggest shareholder in the company. 'Indian Neck Hall'

'Indian Neck Hall', the Frederick Gilbert Bourne estate designed by Ernest Flagg between 1897-1900 in Oakdale. Bourne was president of the Singer Manufacturing Company, of which Ernest Flagg designed both the big and little Singer Buildings in Manhattan.
